Stay Motivated for Weight Loss
So I’ve been doing this in a notebook for awhile now but I figured I should share since it works so well for me. At the beginning of each week or month, I come up some goals and a plan for how to reach them. Then I revisit my goals each week and answer some reflection questions. Here it is for the month of May, and I’ll be posting every Tuesday with a weekly check in.
May Goals (long...

Day 21: Post your intake today. Are you happy with it?
Breakfast:
banana
soup
sashimi
sauteed tuna, eggplant and spinach with rice
coconut water
Dinner:
Pork butt BBQ
Dinner roll
I don’t know if I’m “happy” with my intake or whatnot. I ate WAY more food today than I normally do (about 2500 calories if I had to guess) but today was a special occasion. On a normal...

Oatmeal Pancakes
This is one of my favorite post-workout recipes. It’s full of good healthy things to help your body recover.
The Ingredients:
1/2 cup of dry oats
1 egg
3 Tbsp water
1 banana
cinnamon to taste
1 Tbsp peanut butter
The Recipe: Mix up the egg and water with the oats and let sit in the fridge for at least 15 minutes (I do it overnight). When you’re ready to make your pancakes, mash...

Day 20: Picture after an intense workout! (Doesn’t have to be from today, but it should be!)
I did a little photo set here. I’m still a little camera shy with my face so I’ll show you all the other great parts after my awesome 7.5 mile run.
First, the blister on my heel bleeding on to my pretty (mismatching) socks. Second, my sweaty self. Last, my kneecaps and shins are...

Day 19: What is your favorite way to work out?
Team sports for sure. Field hockey or soccer. But I also love rock climbing and running if I am going solo. But really, the only workouts I don’t like are ones I look like a fool doing (read: zumba). Not because I think they’re bad workouts, just because I am horribly uncoordinated and self conscious.

Day 18: Do a cartwheel, (OR anything else cool you can do physically) and add a photo of it!
Blurry photo of me hanging out in crow pose. Side crow is also coming along nicely and forearm stand is a work in progress. How exactly does one take a photo of themselves while doing a cartwheel anyway?
Struggle
Right now I’m living a couple thousand miles from home and it can really get to me some days. Today I got a care package from my family which made me really sad and moody. And worse-it’s filled with delicious snack foods that I can’t get here.
Basically, I’m sitting here with piles of delicious food that I love and crave and haven’t eaten in months trying to figure...

Day 17: What have you done so far to keep yourself going?
When I was binging every day it felt like I had no choice. Now that I’ve gone a little while without it, I can see that it is my decision to make. I keep repeating that to myself when things get hard: “It is always my choice”. Also, I know this is a little compulsive, but when I get stressed or need a distraction, I cut...

Day 16: Picture of a non-food reward that you enjoy.
I’m a little embarrassed by how long this took me to answer. Upon reflection, I realized that I don’t often reward myself and when I do, my first impulse is to use food. My favorite non-food reward that I can think of is buying new climbing gear such as these beautiful shoes I will be buying as soon as I take my lead climbing class

Day 15: You’ve lasted OVER TWO WEEKS! How does that feel?
Um, kinda shitty seeing as I’ve binged a few times in that time span (just being honest). But I have found myself binging a little less or trying to make healthier decisions. And I have avoided a few binges by virtue of this challenge. I think it’s actually been more like 10 days binge free so maybe I’ll have to tack on...

Day 14: Do you think your binging is emotional?
As I’ve said before, it definitely started as an emotional thing. When you’re binging, you get to block out everything else it the world. Not thinking about your to-do list or your homework or your job; it’s just you and the food and I love how distracted I can be. Now I worry that I use it as an excuse to eat whatever I...

Day 13: What are you doing to make sure you’re drinking enough water? (This is key!)
This one is actually pretty easy for me. I’m a teacher so I’m always talking all day long. In order to keep from losing my voice I have to be drinking 24/7. I generally am drinking somewhere over 2 liters a day. My main problem is figuring out how to pee without leaving my class unattended!

Day 12: Why do you think you binge? Be honest with yourself.
Honestly? I started doing it to deal with some emotional turbulence in my life that happened when I finally quit self harming. Now? I think I’ve started using it as an excuse. Whenever I want something that’s high calorie or should be eaten in moderation, I just think “I can’t help it; I’m a binge eater and...

Day 10: A picture of a time in your life you remembering being really happy. How much does binging affect your mood?
I watched the sunset with 3 of the most amazing people I know from a cave carved out in a cliff by the ocean. It was one of the most serene and beautiful things I’ve ever seen and I had the amazing feeling of “everything is right in the world”.
Binging not only...

Day 11: What is the hardest thing you’ve had to do? It can be fitness, social, mental, etc.
This is a tough one. I think the hardest thing I’ve ever had to do was go to therapy for the first time. Every fiber of my being told me to run out the door and never come back but I actually kept my promise and kept going. But getting in the door was seriously one of the hardest things I’ve...

Day 9: What inspires you?
Well this is a pretty broad question. What inspires me to get fit? That would be kicking serious ass and never feeling physically incapable (what a crappy feeling).
What inspires me in life? People doing what they love. I hope that one day I can be ecstatic to get up and go to work and be proud of what I do.

Day 8: A picture of something that makes you smile.
This is where I currently live (yes, I actually live on a tropical island). It never fails to make me smile when I see the gorgeous sunrise or sunset over the ocean.

Day 7: Are there specific times of day that you have trouble avoiding a binge? How are you working around that now? (Congrats on making it one week!!)
Right when I get home from work is the worst. I’m generally cranky, tired, and in no mood to make something healthy. Plus there is the added stress of sometimes I stop by somewhere on the way home and pick up food. I’ve been working...

Day 6: Do you have any fear foods? If so, post a picture of them here. Yep, have the picture on your blog, and try to stop being scared of these foods.
I know it is ridiculous that I have let myself get here but I am afraid of bread. Not afraid so much as I refuse to let myself buy it because I am afraid once I start eating I won’t be able to stop until the whole thing is gone. The same...

Day 5: What do you usually binge on? Do you have certain trigger foods?
I tend to binge on anything that is predominantly sugar. Cookies, cakes, chocolate, candy etc. Sometimes when I get really deep into a binge I’ll order an entire pizza, make pasta, or go for other simple carbs but I’m mainly a sugar girl.
I do have trigger foods which are mainly baked goods. I try to make sure...

Day 3: What do you define as a binge?
For me, binging is a state of mind. There are days where I overeat but it’s not a binge and days I binge where I’m still under my calories for the day. For me binging is a feeling of emptiness that I try and quell by stuffing tons of food into myself until I feel to nauseous to move. It’s feeling like I can’t stop. And it’s a...

Day 2: Post a recent picture of yourself! Don’t body-shame, name two things you like about yourself in this picture.
It takes every fiber of my being not to body shame but I’m resisting. The two things I like about myself in this picture are:
1) My legs. They are solid and strong and let me hike/run/bike/do yoga/play field hockey/soccer/rock climb and the list goes on. I can never thank...

I have overcome a lot of mental and emotional hurdles in my life and dealt with a lot of self-hate and self-doubt. I am finally working my way towards a happier and healthier me and binging is the last obstacle standing in my way. 50 days and I’m going to break free. Hooah!

Dealing with Binges →
By far the best method I’ve found to deal with binges and cravings. It’s all about self-love and self-care; it’s not about depriving or denying yourself.
Check it out.
